Sustainable Equality

The “5 Noviembre Slum” it is an irregular settlement considered as one of the most marginated slums of Guadalajara City, where coincidentally, Mexico has two of the richest municipalities in the country. This location presents the following conditions:

• Extreme poverty

• Zero aspirations

• 80% of the population does not have primary education

• 100% of the Streets have no pavement

• Zero health services

• 98% of the households cannot access to drinkable water

• 100% of the households without official electricity service

• Zero public spaces

The main challenge this project wants to solve is for 500 people and 90 families to get out the extreme marginality by providing access to educación, health services and aspirational orientation. This expects to reduce inequality and increase the quality of life. The expected outputs are:

• 216 Hours of fieldwork at the Slum

• 1 Population census

• 12 Capacitation workshops

• 1 Urban garden

• 1 Artistical intervention

• 1 Kermes per year

• 1 Rainwater collection system

• 3 sessions of Flattening streets and removal of rubble

This project is being planned with Global Shapers Guadalajara Hub, the Urban Improvement Directorate of Zapopan, the State Secretariat of Substantive Equality, Engineers for a Better Jalisco A.C, Student Energy NGO and COLLECTIVE 5/11.
